We found 2 nice little spot that were loaded with Quahogs and started to get to work. I don’t know about you, but sitting in one place and digging underwater really helps a diver maximize their air usage. I can get about a 1 ½ hours out of my tank and still surface with 750 PSI or better doing this. The water is nice and cool, it was slack tide, and the visibility in here was pretty good. While scrounging around the bottom, I tend to look for small little animals

We started this dive as we always do, we ask everyone around how the visibility is, they tell us it’s terrible, we disbelieve them, and go look for ourselves anyway. I don’t know why we haven’t skipped the ritual of asking every other diver how the visibility is, especially since we would never just say “well that’s terrible, let’s go home”. Were going in and that’s that, so we really should stop asking, all it does it get our hopes up/down anyway.

The water here has some nice depth to it. There is a shipping lane about 100 – 200 yards offshore in this location. You can find depths well into the 150 foot range. If you don’t pay attention, you can find yourself exceeding your limits quickly. This area is usually a good spot for some Tautog and lots of Fluke, or Summer Flounder. We figured since this place isn’t even close to packed like Point Judith is, we may as well try to rustle up some dinner here. Point Judith is about 30 – 50 feet deep, and you don’t have to worry about where you’re going too much at that location, but here, here you can find yourself hanging in the blue in no time at all, without sight of bottom nor top, so you better not get distracted chasing some dinner, or you could find yourself over that shipping channel that drops to 150+ feet.
